Leonor Watling was born on July 28, 1975 in Madrid, Spain. From Spanish father, and English mother, Leonor grew up billingual though normally she speaks English at home with her family. She lost her father when she was 18.

She was named after Leonor de Aquitania, a precursor of feminism. Leonor uses her mother's lastname though she thought about using her father's lastname as her artistic lastname but decided she didn't want to complicate her brother's life.
